We’re Still Here
The glamour's gone from flying. Still, there's still something intangible about the destination itself. There's something about "being there" that keeps us going.
The legendary Eartha Kitt sang a title song "I'm Still Here" on the now rare album recorded in England. It was about good times and bad times in show biz. Although she wasn't singing about airline personnel, here's how the song might have been written if she was.
Good times and bad times,
We've seen them all and, we're here.
High flying sometimes,
Sometimes it brings you to tears,
But we're here.
We've strolled through Manhattan,
Hong Kong, too.
Hung out in Bangkok,
Sung the blues.
Seen all our futures disappear,
But we're here.
We've slept in bag rooms,
Guests of old M-S-Y,
But we're here.
Got back into airplanes,
Back into the friendly sky,
And we're here.
We've gotten through Stephen Wolf, Jimmy, and Tilton,
Oh what a threesome they were.
When you've been through banckruptcy, flow, and slowdowns,
Anything else is a breeze.
Come in on doubles,
Out on a flight that same night,
And we're here.
Been called rude,
Unhelpful, too.
Fix the damn weather,
Get 'em free hotels with food!
Forget "United Promoters"
It's the pits.
Think of it as boot camp,
Then off to the Ritz.
We run the gamut,
A to Z.
Wow, Seat 1-D this time,
C'est la vie!
We got through nine eleven,
And we're here.
Lord knows we have survived,
And we're here.
Look who's here!
We're here!
